Aigle Royal has been chosen as the preferred proponent to redevelop the former Midland Saleyards site.
Minister for Planning, John Day, said the works will be a major milestone for Midland's growth into the future.
"Being close to the Midland town centre, key infrastructure and excellent transport access, the saleyards site is in a perfect location to provide new retail options for people living in Midland and the surrounding areas," Day said.
"The site is expected to be a future workplace for about 500 people and is one of several underutilised areas which are being transformed to create more opportunities for employment, housing, commercial and community development.”
The 14 hectare site will be transformed into a new light-industrial, large-format retail and commercial precinct.
The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority has determined the value of development applications to be in excess of $30 million.
"Together with a new medical and education precinct, including a new public hospital opening in November and proposed plans for the new Curtin University medical school, Midland's exciting future is rapidly taking shape," he said.
"The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority has worked to secure private investment into the area, resulting in more than $30 million of development applications approved in the last financial year."
The Minister said the investment would breathe new life into the development.
