Work is underway on the Mitchell Freeway to construct a dedicated northbound exit lane to improve motorist access.
Minister for Major Projects, Paul Fletcher, said the works form part of the Traffic Congestion Management Program.
“Once construction of the new exit lane is completed, weather permitting, in June this year,” Fletcher said.
“There will be a noticeable improvement to traffic flows on this section of the freeway, particularly in afternoon peak periods.”
The project is one of nine projects receiving a total of $499.1 million from the Australian government.
Minister for Transport, Dean Nalder, said resolving congestion was a key priority of the Western Australian government.
“We have looked at conflict points along the freeway and identified opportunities where we can allow vehicles to exit without disrupting traffic flow,” Nalder said.
“For example, line marking modifications completed in February on the northbound Hay Street off-ramp provide a double exit lane for freeway traffic.”
Two dedicated exit lanes were also installed on the Kwinana Freeway last year.
