Health Minister John Day was on hand on Wednesday the 10th of August to officially open the new Carnarvon Health Campus. Coming in at a cost of $26.8 million, the facility will now serve as a central health hub for the community.
One of the key upgrades was to the Emergency Department, which is now rated as the equal best ED in Western Australia after expansion and meeting cyclone standards. The facility now also includes new mental and child health services, alongside a dental clinic and physiotherapy gymnasium.
The facility is set to be complimented by a new $16.58 million, 38 bed aged care facility located that will be located within the health campus, created as part of the Liberal National Government's Royalties for Regions Gascoyne Revitalisation Plan. Construction on this project is set to start in 2017.
A 4 chair renal unit has also been sanctioned, ensuring remote patients have easy access to the care they need. Similarly, Pindan Construction Pty Ltd is set to start imminently on a new five bed renal hostel as another improvement to rural dialysis services after Day announced they had been awarded the contract to do so.
It is expected that the new constructions will add up to 170 jobs combined in 2016 and 2017.
