Premier Colin Barnett has today announced the beginning of the next stage of Joondalup’s HBF Arena redevelopment.
The Premier has revealed that up to $4.3 million has been assigned to the project as part of the 2016-17 State Budget. As part of the works, new basketball and football facilities will be constructed and used by the West Perth Football Club, the Wanneroo Basketball Association and the wider community.
The facility will receive new double tiered facilities that will include revamped ticketing and merchandise areas, administration and function areas, player amenities, coach and support staff accommodation, as well as sporting development and corporate facilities.
Wanneroo Basketball Association will receive four basketball courts inclusive of a ‘500-seat show court’, as well as player facilities and office admin areas.
The Premier spoke of the works that will transform the arena into a sporting hub for Joondalup.
"Perth's northern suburbs are one of Australia's most rapidly expanding population corridors and the community deserves a sporting hub it can be proud of," Mr Barnett said.
"HBF Arena already services about one million patrons each year, and the new sporting facilities are expected to further increase the number of players and spectators."
To date, the HBF Arena has already received new courts and admin facilities for the local Netball association, as well as a new rugby pitch that is located on the western oval.
Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies waxed lyrical about the improvements to the facilities and its community potential.
"While the various clubs at HBF Arena will benefit from these new facilities, the project is also providing additional infrastructure for safe and convenient community use," Ms Davies said.
"Thanks to this redevelopment, HBF Arena will continue to be a great meeting point for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy being physically active in Perth's north."
