Lands Minister Terry Redman has today announced that the State Government via LandCorp, will take a lead role in the development of the Ocean Reef Marina. The Government will be working with the Joondalup council to develop the precinct that will include corporate, retail, residential and marine facilities and services.
Mr Redman said that the Government taking control will give the project the boost that it needs, with the project first being proposed over 30 years ago.
"The Government taking on this role will provide the required momentum to this long-awaited project and assist the City of Joondalup in bringing its goal of developing a marina to fruition," Mr Redman said.
"Ocean Reef Marina represents a rare opportunity for coastal land to be developed into a significant facility that encompasses high levels of environmental, economic and social sustainability."
Earlier this year the State Government provided $500,000 in funding to finalise the plans for the Marina.
The plans for the marina precinct include open spaces for locals, boardwalks, accommodation for tourists, as well as commercial shopping and dining outlets. Similarly, up to 1,000 residences will be built in the area.
A detailed business case is expected to be submitted by the close of the year.
