$10.3 million worth of funding has been allocated to upgrade the intersection of Mandurah Road and Pinjarra Road.
Transport Minister Bill Marmion today announced the project whilst inspecting the progress of the Mandurah traffic bridge.
The new upgraded intersection will increase the capacity from four to six lanes which will significantly reduce travel times for commuters through the area.
“As a fundamental gateway to the South-West, the Liberal National Government recognises Mandurah’s importance to continued regional growth and development.
“This intersection is already operating at about 90 per cent capacity with drivers experiencing significant queues and some delays at peak times – this project will address these challenges,” Mr Marmion said.
Construction works on the upgrade intersection will generate up to 70 jobs, with works expected to start in mid-2017.
The minister also spoke of the progress of the $51.8 million Mandurah traffic bridge, and the amount of jobs created as a result of the project.
“This new, four-lane bridge will improve both journey times and safety for road users,” he said.
“More than 200 jobs have been created as part of the bridge redevelopment process, which demonstrates this Government’s commitment to the continued economic development and social wellbeing of this vibrant region.”
