CCIWA Manager discusses WA’s Major Projects.

Charles Kobelke, Manager of WA Works, ICN (WA) and Marketing Operations at Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA, caught up with the 9th Annual WA Major Projects Conference 2018 to talk about exciting projects in WA and how they’ll help the state’s economy.

Question (Q): Do you think industries are working together seamlessly enough to bring WA into another boom stage? How?

Charles Kobelke (CK): The lessons we learnt from the last boom would suggest WA should diversify its economy and become less reliant on the performance of any one sector. Much more needs to be done to capitalise on the skills, knowledge and creativity that has developed through the state’s major industries and there is an absolute necessity for industry and government to be much more proactive in helping to diversify the state’s economy through innovation. This would enable more successful commercialisation of R&D, greater depth in supply chains and more opportunities for WA businesses.

Q: Which major projects featured on the event agenda are you most excited about? How will it specifically benefit the state?

CK: What’s Next for Tourism WA’s Major Projects, Perth World Trade Centre, Kwinana Lithium Plant.

Three key growth opportunities to engage local content. A view on the way forward helps to re-ignite hope for future work in the state and gets businesses working together. Internally at CCI we have done a lot in the Lithium space and see it as a big opportunity for local suppliers to tender and win work in the resources centre. It’s also great to see the metro regions future participating in lithium process.

Q: In what ways are the industries evolving and what role does the WA Major Projects Conference play in all of this from CCIWA’s point of view?

CK: At CCI we see many businesses leading industry evolution through become agile and adaptable companies. Networking and information has now become more important than ever in such a competitive market to stand out from a counterpart. The WA Major Projects Conference provides this opportunity to network with heavyweights in industry, met those moving industry forward and gain necessary information into what businesses need to do and look for in future work.
