The Western Australian government has announced the beginning of flood-proofing works on the Onslow Ring Road project.
The $14 million projects aims to construct 3.5 kilometres of new entrance road into the North-West town of Onslow.
Minister for State Development, Colin Barnett, said the works were funded through the State Development Agreement.
"This project is another example of the State government and industry working together to improve the social, health and economic outlook of the town," Barnett said.
New ring road provides direct access to the upgraded airport from the town centre, providing a more direct way for commuters to travel between the two locations.
Minister for Transport, Dean Nalder, said the project would provide all-weather access to Onslow.
"During cyclones and storm surges, the road can flood, hindering evacuations and obstructing emergency services. This new higher road will alleviate this issue," Nalder said.
The project is set to be complete by April 2016.
