The Western Australian government is committing $1.8 million towards upgrading Caves Road in a bid to significantly improve road safety in the South-West region.
Minister for Transport, Dean Nalder, announced the project today while visiting the area.
"Caves Road is an important transport and tourist route linking Busselton, Dunsborough and Yallingup," Nalder said.
"Thousands of road users travel Caves Road every day and usage increases significantly at weekends and during public holidays.”
The project aims to install new drainage and widen a 4.5 kilometre stretch of Caves Road between Vidler Road and Yallingup Beach Road.
16 car crashes have been reported on this section of Caves Road in the five years leading up to December 2014.
"The State government is committed to improving road safety across the State and in this case, will make significant changes to Caves Road which will benefit road users and the community by reducing the potential and severity of crashes," he said.
A total of $6.9 million has been allocated to the South-West region from the Regional Road Run-off Program.
The road upgrades are expected to be completed this month.
