Architectural designs have been released for the new Katanning Health Service as part of the state government’s pledge to improve mental health.
Minister for Health, Kim Hames, said Peter Hunt Architects was contracted to design the health facility.
"They have chosen a combination of colours and textures to both contrast and link the existing red brick buildings on the site with the light, modern spaces of the new amenities. Use of cement sheet cladding in shades of green echoes the colours of the local landscape," Hames said.
"The redevelopment is more than cosmetic of course. People in Katanning and surrounding areas will have access to a new state-of-the-art emergency department, medical imaging and outpatient care facility more in tune with contemporary models of health care.”
Katanning Health Service is expected to contain an emergency department, medical imaging and outpatient care building.
Minister for Regional Development, Terry Redman, said the health service would provide more options for residents seeking medical care.
"The provision of quality health care services is essential to the sustainability, both social and economic, of regional WA," Redman said.
"Royalties for Regions is investing in the redevelopment of health facilities to provide a contemporary health care model for residents in the bush, attracting, retaining and supporting a viable regional population in each area."
Preliminary construction is scheduled to begin February.
