The Western Australian government is committing $3.19 million to upgrade sections of the South Western Highway north of Donnybrook.
Minister for Transport, Dean Nalder, said the upgrade would deliver significant improvements to the South Western Highway.
"This initiative will play a key part in improving road user safety on the critical link between Perth and the South-West," Nalder said.
"The town of Donnybrook is continuing to grow and these highway improvements will ensure with the increased usage of local road infrastructure, both road users and the community remain safe.”
The highway upgrade will widen 1.7km section of South Western Highway to 11 metres between Donnybrook and Marginata Drive.
The South Western Highway is a key link between the South-West and Great Southern regions.
On average 6,800 vehicles use the Northern section of the South Western Highway per day.
Fulton Hogan has been chosen to complete the upgrade.
