New contracts for the processing of sandalwood in Western Australia are now open for tender.
Acting Minister for Forestry, Colin Holt, said the request was launched today following the restructure of commercial arrangements.
"A modified industry structure has been developed through extensive industry and stakeholder consultation and ensures market stability, opportunities for new entrants and prioritising of regional investment," Holt said.
Proposals are being sought for the processing, sale and marketing of the State’s wild sandalwood resources.
The new contract aims to ensure market stability, prioritise regional investment and create opportunities for companies.
The Western Australian government hopes to promote employment in Aboriginal and regional components with the new arrangements.
Existing contract agreements on the processing of sandalwood will end on June 30, 2016.
Proposals for the expressions of interest close on March 23, 2016 and will be assessed by an independent panel.
